A great aussie read for those who enjoy the complexities of exploring the thin line between friendships and relationships. This book will challenge your views on the boundaries of human intimacy.
I really enjoyed this book and intend seeking out any other books this author hopefully has written , in the hope that they are as enjoyable as this one

Catherine Deveny gives a great sense of a Gen-Xer moving from being a schoolgirl to adventurous backpacker to settled mother. Unless you’re lucky enough to (happily) end up with your first love, you’ll always be wondering about your earlier romances, with all sorts of what-if questions. And early romances necessarily have the biggest impact on you.
It’s all very nice to wonder about past lovers, but when the stakes include a loving partner and children, is it such a good idea to (accidentally) meet an old lover? The protagonist Lizzie is researching the idea of happiness, and admits herself that she has nothing to complain about, until she runs into her old lover, and memories come flooding back.
I enjoyed the Melbourne references, and Lizzie’s uninhibited Australianness. This might fly over the head of foreigners, but I think us Gen-X Melbournites are the book’s real target audience.
